Short answer: a simple, decent website for a trade business in Scotland usually costs somewhere between a few hundred pounds for a single page and a couple of thousand for a full site with branding. On top of that you’ll pay for hosting and a domain every year. The build is the easy bit to price. The running costs and the extras are where people get caught out.
I’ll go through what you’re actually paying for, what you don’t need, and what my own prices are, since they’re published anyway.
What you’re paying for
Every website has the same handful of costs, whoever builds it:
- The build. Designing the pages, writing the words, sorting your photos and making it work on a phone.
- Hosting. The server your site lives on. Usually monthly or yearly.
- The domain. Your web address, like yourname.co.uk. Usually around £10 to £20 a year for a .co.uk.
- Email. An address at your own domain looks far more professional than a Hotmail one.
- Changes. New photos, new services, a price change. Some people include these, some charge per change.
How much do trades really need?
Less than you’d think. Most trades don’t need a twenty-page website. They need:
- A clear headline saying what you do and where
- Your phone number, tap to call, at the top
- Photos of real jobs
- The towns you cover
- Reviews
- A way to get in touch
That can all fit on one well built page. If you want to show up on Google for different services or different towns, that’s when more pages start to earn their keep.
My prices
Here’s what Toflin charges. These are founding prices until 31 December 2026, and every one includes the first year’s hosting, your domain and an email address:
- Landing Page: £299 (£399 from January 2027). One focused page built to get calls.
- 5 Pages + Landing Page: £499 (£799 from January 2027). A proper site for a busy trade.
- Launch Package: £1,599 (£2,999 from January 2027). Six page website, logo and brand pack, Google profile, social media artwork and a month of posts.
After the first year, hosting is £20 a month or £199 a year. Changes are £35 each, or you can add monthly updates for £395 a year. Everything’s on the pricing page.
Watch out for these
- You don’t own the domain. Make sure your web address is in your name, or can be moved to you.
- Cheap builds, dear hosting. A £99 website with £60 a month hosting is not a cheap website.
- Lead fees. Some platforms take a cut of every job. A website doesn’t.
- Long contracts. Know what happens if you want to leave.
Is it worth it?
If one extra job a year comes from your website, it’s usually paid for itself. For most trades it’s a lot more than one, because the website isn’t just for strangers. It’s what people check after they’ve been given your name.
Quick answers
How much does a website cost for a tradesman?
A one-page site from a small local designer typically starts at a few hundred pounds. A full site with several pages costs more. Toflin’s start at £299 for a landing page at founding prices.
Do I need to pay monthly for a website?
You’ll pay for hosting, either monthly or yearly. With Toflin the first year is included, then it’s £20 a month or £199 a year.
Can I build my own website with Wix or Squarespace?
Yes, if you’ve got the time. The tricky bits are writing it so Google understands what you do and where, and keeping it updated.
